Suspect set to face murder rap

-

A MURDER charge is expected to be brought against aman, 45, suspected of killing Gavin Maritz while he was house-sitting his sister’s Lakeside home.

Frederick Lucas of Parow Valley briefly appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Lucas was arrested in Milnerton on Saturday after police found him in possession of Maritz’s black VW Polo which was stolen five days earlier.

It is alleged that Lucas stole Maritz’s car and two computers from the Lakeside house last Monday. Lucas has been charged with theft. Maritz’s family had found his body in one of the bedrooms about 6pm that day. Maritz, 57, of Green Point had been stabbed to death.

Prosecutor Deidre Julius said the State was opposed to Lucas’s release on bail and intended to charge Lucas with Maritz’s murder. He is back in court tomorrow. – Court Reporter
