GANG violence in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, has claimed the life of a 24-year-old, while a man in his sixties was wounded in the shooting.

Zainudheen Boltman, 24, a construction worker from Beacon Valley, was killed on Sunday in Netball Crescent Road while he was helping a friend fix a car.

Police spokesman FC van Wyk said Boltman had been shot several times andIrafan Esau (the man in his sixties) was taken to hospital.

“The police chased the suspect, who fled the scene, but managed to recover the firearm which is presumed to have been used in the shooting.”

Fariedah Boltman, Zainudheen’s mother, said she had just finished praying when she heard shots.

Shortly afterwards someone came to her door to tell her that her son had been shot. “I couldn’t believe it, but when my daughter-in-law came crying, I knew it was my son.”

Washiela Samuelson, the mother of the friend Boltman had been visiting, said: “I had just dished up for them and then he was called outside to help with the car. A few minutes later we heard shots. He wasn’t a gangster, so why would they kill him?” she sobbed, adding that he was like a second son to her.

Netball Crescent, a road 450m in length, has seen three people die in the past three weeks. Yellow circles show where police have found bullets.

Residents say the gang violence started last month when a Mongrels gangster was killed, allegedly by the 28s. The body of the Mongrels gangster was found at Strandfontein Beach.

Faiza Brenna, a resident, said people were fed up with the gang violence and wished the gangs would make peace as they had in Manenberg.

“We just want to be safe and this war to end.”
