World Rhino Day
WORLD Rhino Day was introduced in September 2010 by conservation group WWF South Africa to highlight the plight of the two species found in Africa: the white rhino and the black rhino.
The day is now celebrated in countries such as Australia, Britain, Kenya, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, the US, Zimbabwe and even Vietnam, with a focus on all five surviving rhino species.
WWF-SA’s rhino programme and wildlife trade monitoring network, TRAFFIC, will today release what they say is the most comprehensive consumer research yet undertaken into the use of rhino horn in Vietnam, the country most responsible for rhino poaching. sury, “in an effort to coordinate the financing of anti-poaching initiatives”.
The department’s responses to questions about the structure and management of the fund had not arrived at the time of going to press.
