1 Garden Wedding? Wear this

Think old-world glamour and innocence. Pastels, floral prints, lace and A-line dresses are great here. Look for details like cap sleeves, boat necklines and demure hemlines. A sweet fascinator or a wide-brimmed hat, lace gloves and timeless jewellery – like pearls or diamond studs – will complete your outfit.

2 Wedding on a wine estate? Wear this

These events have a rustic yet elegant feel, so try a beaded cocktail number or a long dress in a bold colour. Vintage clothes or add-ons are also a good idea. Accessorise with jewelled wedges, a faux-fur stole (for later in the evening) and retro hair clips.

3 Themed wedding? Wear this

Always participate in the theme, even if it’s only in your accessories, as this makes the bridal couple feel special. Research the era for ideas. For a 1920s theme, for example, try a drop-waist dress, pearls and a beaded headband. It doesn’t have to be gimmicky at all.

4 Beach wedding? Wear this

A beach wedding calls for something relaxed and quite exotic, like flowing chiffon, something short and shiny, a draped number, or a simple shift dress. Add glamorous flats and metallic jewellery, and you’re good to go.

5 Late-afternoon-intoevening-wedding? Wear this

This is the perfect time for that long, beautifully embellished dress or unique and daring piece. Think lace, prints, oneshoulder designs – it’s all about dressing up!

This is also the ideal occasion for accessories that are bold and unusual. Your heels can be a bit higher than normal, too. Don’t be afraid of wearing a dark colour or even black for this occasion. The old traditions have fallen away, and dark shades are versatile and flattering on all body shapes, as well as understated and chic.

6 Any wedding? Never wear this!

A white dress is not regarded as appropriate for a guest. After all, this is the bride’s special day, so don’t look like you’re trying to steal her limelight!

7 And also… Please don’t do this!

Ignoring the requested dress code is a huge faux pas. The bride and groom have devoted time and resources to creating the perfect day, so why discredit their hard work? And besides, you don’t want to be the one who sticks out like a sore thumb in the wedding pictures!
