Zuma needs to meet the ‘some people’
MARIUS Fransman, a small request to you as a loyal comrade of President Jacob Zuma and a member of the ANC government.
Could you please take the president by the hand and lead him through the streets of Cape Town.
Show him where the children of the “some people” live that he referred to in his history lesson in Parliament on Thursday.
You know, the story of all the trouble that started when Jan van Riebeeck arrived here in the Cape and he met “some people”. Show him the sights, workplaces and beaches. Let him mingle with the ordinary descendants of the “some people” who stood together and worked hard, not only to build this beautiful city, but also for the freedom that they and their children now enjoy.
Then ask him why you, as a loyal servant of the ANC government, must allow factions of the ANC to follow a path of destruction in a quest to make this part of South Africa ungovernable. Why you have to implement the ANC government’s apartheid policy called affirmative action.
This policy that will displace over a million descendants of the “some people” that have called the Western Cape home for over 400 years.
If you are allowed to, suggest to him that the ANC should respect the constitution and that here in the Western Cape the people expect a government official not to shout, point fingers, stir racial animosity and only look on the dark side.
They prefer a leader that adheres to core values, practises what he preaches and encourages all to follow the Mandela legacy, working together in a corruption-free society.
