Cycling

If cyclists stop cycling three to four abreast, maybe we’d have fewer cycling accidents.

What a jerk of a cyclist in orange in Beach Road around 12.20pm, harassing older driver about 1.5m when he could clearly be cycling a bit closer to parked cars. You were just wanting to make a scene, hitting on his window and shouting. He wasn’t anywhere near you and your female companion cyclist did not have a problem. I am from a family of professional and leisure cyclists who certainly don’t think the road belongs to them and yes, I was the infuriated one calling back at you to get a life instead of upsetting everyone with your self-centred entitled attitude!

Politics

After all President Jacob Zuma’s fine words in the reply to the debate on Sona, he still hasn’t mentioned when he will pay back the money.

Don’t worry foreign landowners, ANC statement probably just hot air because the first people who would have to give up their agricultural land would be the Guptas and, let’s face it, that’s not going to happen!

Jacob Zuma claims we are all part and parcel of the rainbow nation. Tell me as a (coloured) “red seal” artisan, why did I have to lose my job to an unqualified ethnic black person? – Ex ANC

Please ANC, do not get rid of Marius Fransman because with him in the Western Cape the DA will always stay in power. – David

Western Cape the apartheid province? It’s the opportunity province – just ask the disillusioned who flock here from the corrupt, dysfunctional ANC provinces! – GF

Where is the decent ANC that the world supported? Judging by the racist thug Fransman, the world was conned. – EF

Eskom

Most of us who are lucky enough to have electricity, have a “love-hate” feeling towards Eskom. Hate you when the power goes off and I miss Stormers rugby, but love you when I get to see the second half. Thanks but the fact remains that you screwed up years ago and now we lucky ones have to suffer. – Graham.

Why is Pinelands always targeted for blackouts as opposed to areas such as Constantia, Camps Bay, the whole of the Northern suburbs? Why the discrimination? If you are unable to do your jobs let those who you let go do it for you. We are sick of Eskom’s inefficiency! – V.G.B

Others

I don’t understand the new generation of proudly Afrikaans speaking people – everything is “soo baie nice”, “dis soo awesome”, “ek love dit”. Even TV mixes English with Afrikaans, how are our children ever going to learn? Dit “irritate my”. – NPP

Oil goes up, straight away petrol price is going up. Are food prices also going up? They never dropped when petrol did and their transport costs did. Neither did electricity when diesel did. The biggest two scams in this country are petrol and electricity. Why isn’t Sasol subsidising both? That’s what it was built for. – AL

Dear Argus, please continue Modesty on Sunday. I have been a comic addict since 1946 in Germany. Then we used to steal Donald Duck at the back yards from the American kids.

Congratulations to Rodney Trudgeon, Fine Music Radio, for being the only announcer on that station who nowadays correctly pronounces the composer’s surname, Poulenc.

Referring to a current ad aired on radio the following – if Audi makes your palms sweat, it’s a very dangerous car to drive! Ben, Vredehoek.

Sorry to disappoint but Hitler was undoubtedly Christian. During his many speeches in the Reichstad he regularly quoted from the Bible and he was a great admirer of the story of Jesus evicting the money lenders (Jews) from the temple (read Mein Kampf). Also, German soldiers had “Gott mit uns” engraved on their belt buckles. And there can be little

doubt the belief that Jews were responsible for the alleged crucifixion of Jesus justified the horrors of the Holocaust. – Gary James

Bianca Coleman in her restaurant review in Weekend Argus must have a stomach made of caste iron. The mixture she can eat. Meat with cheese, bacon, eggs, avo and sauces! It would take me a week to recover.

No Naushad Omar, no SMS column is big enough for your vanity. You need a whole newspaper! Bet you set your alarm for 2am just to jump up, run to the mirror and tell yourself what a devastatingly handsome fellow you are!

Sport

When will the Proteas believe that Wayne Parnell is not an international player? He is a waste of time and will lose a lot of matches still for the Proteas.

To be cowed by a 14-man onslaught is woefully inadequate for a team with trophy pretensions.

Andrew Hudson must resign as cricket convener and Allan Donald must resign as coach. Morne Morkel and Wayne Parnell should also be dropped. – Bryan, Durbanville

Shame! What happened to JP Duminy’s love story at The MCG? Don’t count your chicks before they are hatched

Stupidity seems to be a full-on job for Gavin Rich. After 2012 we realised that the Stormers are not what he want us to believe – a champion side. His perfunctory praise compromises the true purpose of this franchise, namely to be on the same level as the Crusaders. He is off the boat stupid if he cannot see that supporters may not decide the game plan of the Stormers but they decide who they support. Take another look at the stands. Canned cheerleading by nonpaying pupils is not the answer. Watch the stands when the Chiefs visit and understand there is no substitute for quality.

No doubt there will be those who are going to suffer fits of pique if it is pointed out that the Stormers are again in danger of making a lack of try-scoring a constant. To them we ask how, after 2012, you cannot consider that a problem? Are the Stormers’ standard only reaching the play-offs as opposed to going all the way.
