Multi-agency swoop nets tik and cocaine in Milnerton
OPERATION Fiela swept through Summer Greens in Milnerton yesterday, targeting crime and other related activity.
The operation saw police and other law enforcement agencies from the city working together once again.
Provincial police spokesman LieutenantColonel Andrè Traut said the operation had been a major success.
He said the operation had targeted preidentified houses during the early hours of yesterday morning, conducting searches and vehicle checks.
“The presence of police was exceptionally well received by law-abiding citizens who have been reporting illegal activity on a spontaneous basis.”
Traut added that during the operation, 55 houses, 82 vehicles and 196 people were searched.
Three men in their thirties were arrested for being in possession of tik, with a street value of R275 000.
And a 45-year-old man found in possession of 2kg of cocaine was also arrested.
“With the assistance of the Department of Home Affairs, 34 undocumented persons were also arrested,” Traut said.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
Karen Visagie of Milnerton Community Police Forum (CPF) hoped the operation would make more residents join the CPF and neighbourhood watches.
“The operation is the best thing to have ever happened in Summer Greens and I hope it’s a wake-up call for the residents to join us,” she said.
Visagie said crime was escalating, and this was never good for law-abiding citizens.
“If this is the way to let bad elements within our communities know that what they do is not acceptable”, then I hope this ends the crime.
“I would like to see this operation in more areas because it would help a lot in fighting crime.”
