IF GRAVITY-defying motorcyclists and basketball players, tandem skydiving and sports exhibitions where you get to try out the equipment sounds like your kind of the thing, the Cape Argus Sport Show is just for you. The Cape Argus has partnered with Acropolis Exhibitions to bring the first event of its kind to be held in the country, and is due to take place between March 19 and 21 at Sandringham Farm, near Stellenbosch.

“The Cape Argus Sport Show is going to blow the minds of sports fans with the spectacular line-up that is being assembled.

“Capetonians are active participants and followers of sport, and this event will be like none that they’ve ever witnessed.

“It’s a new event, but one we know will be very successful and a feature on the country’s sporting calendar for years to come.

“We are very excited to be title sponsors of this phenomenal event and help build the event’s profile,” said Dr Iqbal Survé, executive chairman at Independent Media, publishers of the Cape Argus.

The Cape Argus Sport Show is the ultimate sport and lifestyle experience.

It features motivational talks by renowned adventurers like Riaan Manser, and sports stars like former free-diving champion Hanli Prinsloo.

There’s also a chance to rub shoulders with your favourite local and international sport stars, including Springbok rugby players, Proteas cricket heroes and Bafana Bafana soccer stars.

The event is not just for adrenalin junkies as there is plenty for the family to enjoy.

Targeted at all sport lovers – from the fanatical sport enthusiast to the casual “sport for fun” participant – the Cape Argus Sport Show is a platform for the sport industry to showcase its strength and encourage a healthy and sport-loving lifestyle.

Exhibitors, retailers and manufacturers will be able to display their wares, while visitors to the event will be able to try them out – from test riding a mountain bike on a BMX dirt track, to Standup Paddleboarding in a custom-built testing pool.

In between taking in the awe-inspiring displays by acrobatic basketball stars, visitors to the show would be able to “try before they buy” at exhibitors’ interactive stalls.

The organisers of the event have gone all out to bring the country a never-beforeseen exhibition on a mind-blowing scale – 6 000m2 of exhibition space showcasing 150 exhibitors, a 3.5km mountain biking trail to test out various bicycles, and a pool purposebuilt for testing scuba gear.

Stephan Jooste, chief executive at Acropolis Exhibitions who are the organisers of the SportShow, said: “We are extremely proud to welcome Independent Media on board as the title sponsor of the inaugural SportShow through the Cape Argus.

“Independent Media share our vision of building a spectacular ‘first-of-its-kind’ sports event that will create new standards of entertainment in the sports industry.

“We look forward to a long-term partnership that will see the SportShow become a highlight on the annual sports calendar.”

Freestyle MotoX (FMX) ace Nick “Sick” de Wit will be showing off his skills on the

ramps, catching big air, as seen on tour with the Red Bull X Fighters.

There will also be a Crossfit box where visitors to the Cape Argus Sport Show can show off their fitness skills and stand in line to win fabulous prizes.

There will also be live Crossfit demonstrations for those who may be interested, but aren’t sure how to get started.

A full entertainment programme with a multitude of activities will be rolled out during the event, resulting in an actionpacked, celebrity-filled and interactive event that sport enthusiasts will want to visit to be entertained, see what’s new on the market, compare prices and shop.

There will also be three interactive BMX and skateboard shows per day, two trampoline and Parkour shows daily, and there’ll even be a few demonstrations on how to do yoga on a paddleboard.

For the more adventurous, visitors can sign up for tandem skydiving at the entrance to the venue, be transported on the 15-minute drive to Stellenbosch airstrip, and do your tandem jump.

The drop zone is next to the entrance of the event, so visitors to the Cape Argus Sport Show can make an extreme entrance.
