West Indies great to thrill guests at gala dinner

2015 WEST Indies fast bowling legend Michael Holding will be thrilling audiences next month when he sits down with former South African cricketing great Ali Bacher.
The duo will sit side-by-side at the Basil D’Oliveira Gala Dinner, where Bacher will interview Holding, on January 7.
The dinner will follow the second Test, between South Africa and England, at Newlands, which starts on January 2. The two countries will be competing for the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy.
The series will be followed by the Gala Dinner and Youth Cricket Experience, which forms part of the Basil D’Oliveira Legacy Project that has been launched by St Augustine Cricket Club in partnership with Western Province Cricket Association.
D’Oliveira was a Cape Town born cricketer who played for England from 1966 to 1972.
He represented and played for the nonwhite South Africa cricket side and moved to England with the help of St Augustine Cricket Club.
Western Province Cricket Association chief executive Nabeal Dien said they were glad to have Holding confirmed as a guest.
“The fact that we got him will be a massive catch and will be very useful to get people to come to the dinner honouring D’Oliveira. There will be another little surprise with another three former captains at the event.”
Holding played 60 Tests for the West Indies until 1987, and was nicknamed “Whispering Death”. He played alongside Andy Roberts, Colin Croft and Wayne Daniel in his Windies days.
Dien said Holding was coming to the event as “a special favour”, and he encouraged companies and corporates to buy a table or tickets to support the event.
Tables at the event are in four categories: Platinum tables are R20 000, Gold tables are R15 000, Silver tables are R10 00 and Bronze tables go for R5 000.
“People can also opt to buy a table in a group and pay R1 000 per head for a table for example.”
