Breakfast host goes to bat for charity

- Iman Latief STAFF REPORTER iman.latief@inl.co.za

KFM’s RYAN O’Connor, the host of Cape Town’s biggest breakfast show, will be swopping his microphone for a cricket bat tomorrow night when he represents the Cape Cobras against the Stormers in the WeChat Newlands Cricket Challenge.

O’Connor said yesterday he was feeling confident about his chances in the T20 match that has become an end-of- year tradition at the cricket ground – some the proceeds of which will go to charity.

Before the featured match between the Cape Cobras and the Stormers at 6pm, local soccer sides Ajax Cape Town and Santos will compete against each other in a six-a-side curtain raiser at 4pm.

O’Connor said he was happy to play for the Cobras and it was helping his nerves. “I’m feeling kind of confident because I’m playing with the cricketers and for the best team. I think if I wasn’t I would be more nervous,” he said.

O’Connor said it was an exciting prospect to play at Newlands in such an exciting game. However, there were some nerves breaking through his confidence. “I think the only thing I’m nervous about is batting first. But it will be fine”.

When asked about his training routine for tomorrow night’s game, O’Connor joked: “I’ve had lots of beer in preparation”.

Five readers each stand a chance to win 5 tickets (the winner and four friends) to the WeChat Newlands Challenge tomorrow, to see O’Connor, the Cobras, the Stormers, Ajax Cape Town and Santos live in action.
