Let 2016 be a year of peace, prosperity...

- MOHAMED SAEED Pietermaritzburg

AS THEY say, time and tide wait for no man. Can you believe 2015 is about to come to an end?

As I watch each year go by, I reflect upon the past year, my age and my purpose in life and ask myself, what preparation I am making for my final destination, the grave.

What positive difference am I making in the lives of others?

We all need to do some self-reflection. Are we concentrating and spending our energies and resources on the correct things?

Are we making a positive difference in the lives of others and in the choices and decisions we make?

Are our social interactions and financial dealings ethical, fair and honest?

This coming new year, let’s all resolve to become active citizens and commit to transforming our country into a place of tolerance, respect, justice and equality. Let’s resolve to reach out to someone in need, look for opportunities to empower others and use our time and resources well.

Moreover, as this year comes to an end and we are getting ready to usher in the new year, we see an even more urgent need to raise our voices to end war and occupation.

As this year draws to a close, I wish an end to all the inequalities, imbalances, and unemployment and poverty challenges, and that 2016 bring peace and prosperity to all.
