SA just another African failure

-

IT APPEARS President Jacob Zuma has a new spin doctor who has taken the place of Mac Maharaj, and he is Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, who has claimed that Zuma should not be blamed for the falling rand.

Gordhan of all people should know that Zuma is not the man for the job. The expiry date for his stay has long passed. In fact, he should not have been given a second term.

As soon as he took office for the second term, everything started to go wrong for the country – from bad to worse. Gordhan must be thankful that he got his job back, but that does not mean he must defend Zuma.

As finance minister, Gordhan will do well. He is respected in all circles, he is sincere and meets his responsibilities, unlike some other ministers who are just there for the status of their positions.

Our rand is sinking deeper, interest rates are rising and the country is on the verge of a recession. Unemployment is increasing and there are no prospects for jobs. The economy needs to make an about-turn, but it seems this won’t happen any time soon.

What happened to our Brics partners – everyone is suddenly very quiet?

No one is talking but undoubtedly the pattern is set for South Africa to become just another African state that ended as a failure, and stands in the corridors of power with a begging bowl – not easily receiving funds.

It seems this is South Africa’s future, which will spell the end of the good times for the ANC government which has been on a spree over the past 21 years. ISMAIL M MOOLLA uMzinto
