Licence to thrill at the Cape Argus SportShow
Jetmen, slam-dunkers, free-divers and a host of SA sports stars will entertain fans
FROM extreme sports lovers to the weekend warrior, the Cape Argus SportShow at Sandringham from March 19 to 21 is designed to cater to all sporting fancies with a host of entertainment, shopping and exhibitions guaranteed to work up a sweat.
Thrilling exhibitions to watch out for include a meet-and-greet in the Xtreme Speakerbox with former Swiss pilot Yves Rossy, known as the “Jetman”, the first man in the world to fly a jet-fitted wing, with his protégé Vince Reffet.
The duo have been flying over Dubai’s Palm Island for years performing stunts and tricks in mid-air that have spectators panting for more.
Basketball fans have the opportunity to witness the feats of the Hungarian Lords of Gravity acrobatic slam-dunk basketball team.
One of the most well-known acrobatic slam-dunk teams in Europe, the team successfully set a new world record for the “Furthest Basketball Slam Dunk” at the NBA Europe Live Tour, in Berlin, in 2012.
Not neglecting watersports, the Cape Argus SportShow has called on South African free dive record- holder Hanli Prinsloo and her team to host exclusive inwater breath-holding coaching sessions and demonstrations in the pool.
Free diving involves swimming deep down without breathing apparatus.
It is based on age-old techniques of subsistence fishing practised by divers living off the sea.
Other exhibitions in the pool include yoga on stand-up paddle boards, a new craze which has taken relaxing yoga and turned it on its head.
Back on land, an interactive BMX freestyle show and the first ever double ramp in South Africa combined with the Bounce arena’s trampoline and parkour should thrill audiences.
Visitors will also get a chance to rub shoulders with sports stars including Springboks, Bafana Bafana players, Proteas, and other local sports heroes.
Gourmet food trucks and a beer tent await hungry sports fans, combined with a fantastic family atmosphere and interactive kiddies area. FIVE readers stand a chance of winning a set of double tickets to the Cape Argus Sports Show, taking place at Sandringham Farm, Stellenbosch.
