4 days left for photo entries
BUDDING photographers have four days left to enter their submissions for the annual Andrei Stenin International Photo contest.
The contest, conducted by the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency and sponsored by the Commission of the Russian Federation for Unesco, promotes and gives attention to young photographers and photojournalists.
Rossiya Segodnya’s director of photography, Alexander Shtol, said: “This is a great opportunity for young photographers to show their work before a professional jury and to compare their qualifications with photographers from five continents.
“Contests like these help us improve as photographers, help hone our skills.
“A distinctive feature of this year’s contest is that more than 60 percent of the submissions are colour photographs, which corresponds with the contest categories.”
According to the competition, the contest is open to participants aged between 18 and 33.
It aims to promote young photographers and support them as they strive for professional perfection.
Entries will be accepted in five categories: My Country, World Colours, Harmony of Life, Portraits, A Hero of Our Time, Breaking News and Sports.
Three winners will be announced in each category and a special prize called the “500 000 ruble Grand Prix” will be awarded for the overall best entry.
The jury is comprised of leading figures from Russian and the international photo community, including Denis Paquin, Associated Press’ deputy director of photography; Zheng Wei, vice-director of the Photographic News Department of China’s Xinhua News Agency; and Aldo Mendichi, an Italian photographer and organiser of educational courses and seminars; Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow House of Photography) founder and director Olga Sviblova, who is a member of the Russian Academy of Arts, among others.
