What we need is true freedom in our time

-

AS A PRODUCT of 1976 (matriculated at Bonteheuwel High) I attended the showing of Action

Kommandant and noticed how many of my cohorts supported the gathering. Many of us who may not have paid the ultimate price, but still made a significant contribution to the Struggle.

Looking at the current state of affairs, I had to ask myself if the sacrifices we had made to be free from colonialist oppression and capitalist domination had been in vain. Since most of the attendees were from the local community, The Foundation Nation (aka “coloureds, Khoisan, bruinmense”, etc), I had to accept that the political-socio-economic situation of our people is worse now than 40 years ago. It is well known that the majority of the prisoners today are of the Foundation Nation, that many of them are “backyard-dwellers” in their own land and that most of our youth are unemployed.

Despite these atrocities that our people are subjected to under a so-called democratic government, we still find radicals who hold on to the view that “South Africa will only be free if Palestine is free”. The truth of the matter is that South Africa will only be free if the Foundation Nation is free. There is sufficient historical and archaeological evidence that the land belongs to the Foundation Nation.

It is time to engage in a “neo-struggle” to bring true freedom to our people. This will endorse the heroic efforts of Ashley Kriel, Anton Fransch and others. The symbolic handing over of the baton to the youth must be translated into tangible action so that we may have true freedom in our lifetime. CLIVE SOLOMON Goodwood
