Cape Flats rocked by shooting incidents
POLICE are investigating two separate shootings on the Cape Flats at the weekend.
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said a 35-year-old man had been gunned down in Bonteheuwel while in Rocklands in Mitchells Plain, two men had been shot. One of them had been fatally wounded.
“According to information, police attended to a shooting incident at Geelhout Street, Bonteheuwel. Upon their arrival they found a body of a 35-year-old man with gunshot wound to his body.”
About the Mitchells Plain shooting, she said: “Police attended to a shooting complaint at 11.40am at the corners of Valley and Homestead streets, Rocklands. Upon their arrival they found a 31-year-old man fatally wounded while a 34-year-old was wounded.”
Distraught relatives stood by as they watched police attend to the scene where an unidentified man’s body was in the middle of the street. Rwexana said the shootings had happened on Friday and murder and attempted murder cases were being investigated.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of two relatives in Lwandle.
“In the early hours of Saturday, a 22-year-old man arrived at his home in Lwandle and found his mother and twin sister sleeping. The suspect allegedly stabbed both victims before fleeing the scene on foot. Both victims, aged 60 and 22, died because of their injuries.”
Rwexana said the motive was unknown at this stage. Police were informed of the whereabouts of the suspect and caught the man on the N2 highway.
She said a case of “double murder” was under investigation and the man would appear in court once charged.
Later that day in Gugulethu, the police’s Stabilisation Unit responded to information about drugs sold in a house in NY 7.
During the search, police recovered 402 mandrax tablets in a bedroom, and four bags of tik, a total of 120g, hidden on a woman’s body. The drugs were an estimated at R40 000.
A woman and a man, 42 and 25 respectively, were arrested and are due to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today. Anyone with information can call the nearest police station, Crime Stop 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line 32211. –
