ENTERING its sixth year, the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival brings local and international acts that are able to establish a bridge between the South African electronic music scene and the global dance community.

What makes the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival different from other music festivals is that, before the actual weekend, there are a series of free workshops – which started on Tuesday and end today – for local aspiring talent.

These workshops are aimed at creating a place where thought leaders, pioneers and mould-breaking talent in all fields of the music industry have a chance to connect outside the festival space. They take place at the Red Bull Studios in Bree Street and Guga S’thebe, Langa.

These “Open End Sessions” provide insight into the background of various electronic music subgenres and subcultures, their major players and early boundary-breakers, as well as bringing together the heavy hitters and newbies in the electronic music space.

For those that are just attending the festival, the line-up is sure to make every EDM fan happy. Some of the acts performing include Heidi, Coldcut, Peanut Butter Wolf, Ryan Hemsworth, Jazzuelle, Youngsta CPT, Jullian Gomes, Kid Fonque, Portable, Till Von Sein, Re.You, Haezer and many more.

This year’s festival also features five different stages to suit all the different electronic music tastes.

AUDITORIUM STAGE

The main stage for the festival is situated in the heart of the Cape Town City Hall. This is where all the headliners with be performing and it will also house the biggest crowd.

TERRACE STAGE

The Terrace Stage will allow you look out over the Cape Town CBD while enjoying some of the best electronic music acts the world has to offer. The Terrace Stage is the perfect setting for letting loose under the sun and stars.

MEZZANINE FLOOR

One of the more intimate stages, the Mezzanine will exhibit fresh talent currently taking the electronic scene in South Africa by storm.

CLUB FLOOR

Do you like to get down and dance the night away? This stage is geared towards a dance experience that is immersive, in a space that’s tucked away and hidden.
