SOME of the Wacky Wine Weekend 2017 highlights:

At Ashton Winery, join white-winemaker Heinrich Coetzee as he takes you through the Ashton Winery range, the 2017 harvest and what their future endeavours are. Thursday until Saturday: 10am, 12pm and 2pm and on Sunday at 10am and 12pm. The cost is R50 and booking is essential.

The original wine blending experience is taking place at Excelsior. This will be an interactiv­e evening hosted by the cellar team at Excelsior. Bottle and label your own creation.

Thursday at 2pm until 5pm, Friday from 10am until 5pm and Saturday from 10 am until 4pm. The cost is R70 and no booking is required.

Springfiel­d Estate has a lunchtime feast. Join them for braaied chicken in their home-made peri-peri sauce served with chips and a fresh green salad. Guests will be entertaine­d by the sounds of the rhythmic band, The Renegades.

Lunch will be served on the lakeside lawns, but in the event of bad weather, it will be served inside the cellar. Saturday from 12pm until 3pm and Sunday from 11.30am until 2.30pm. The cost is R90 and no booking is required.

At Weltevrede they are hosting an event to demonstrat­e the disgorgeme­nt of MCC. They will show you how Methode Cap Classique is disgorged (process of removal of the yeast in sparkling wine) and you will get the opportunit­y to do it yourself and take your bottle home.

Friday from 2pm until 4pm, Saturday it’s starting at 10am, every hour on the hour until 4pm. The cost is R80 per person and no booking required.

Picnic in the self-help deli and tent at Viljoensdr­ift. You can pack a picnic basket in the self-help deli, choose from breads, cheeses, cold meats, pâté and preserves. Hot meals will also be available.
