Pieters family’s new house

- Rusana Philander

IT HAS been confirmed that a house will be built for Courtney Pieters’ family.

This after some confusion over who will build the house that President Jacob Zuma promised the family. He initially said the Jacob Zuma Foundation would build the house. When contacted afterwards the foundation said the mother, Juanita Pieters, must identify a house, which the foundation would purchase.

But at a crime imbizo in Elsies River on Tuesday, Zuma said the national Department of Human Settlements would build the house. This was confirmed by Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu at the same meeting. Yesterday the Department of Human Settlements confirmed that they would be providing the family with a house.

Ndivhuwo Mabaya, the spokesperson for Sisulu, said that they were in the process of providing the family with a house. He said that they would be meeting their provincial counterparts over the matter. He did not say where the house would be built.

But Ntomboxolo Makoba-Somdaka, spokesperson for Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela said he was not aware of the building of the house.

“However the minister is happy about the decision. He will ask Sisulu to continue the good work,” said Madikizela.

Three-year-old Courtney Pieters was killed a few weeks ago. Her body was found in a shallow grave a few kilometres from her house.

WE CANNOT ... PRETEND THAT THE PRESIDENCY IS NOT THE HEADQUARTERS OF A GUPTA EMPIRE
