RESIDENTS of a quiet street in Kenilworth, are in shock after paramedics discovered the body of a 23-year-old man in his home.

ER24 spokesperson, Werner Vermaak, said that shortly after 4pm yesterday paramedics arrived at the man’s unit and found him with a serious wound to his neck.

It appeared he had been stabbed. He was apparently attacked about half a block away from his unit in Three Fountains in Greenfield Street. He ran home after the attack, where he collapsed, Vermaak said.

“Paramedics were called by security guards. There was nothing they could do for him, and he was declared dead. The circumstances surrounding the incident are not known. Police will investigate, Vermaak said.

A trustee of the three towers complex, Naresh Gunanes, said they were shocked and disturbed at the manner of the man’s death. “Our area is quiet, we never thought something like this would happen, we have security and cameras. The whole area is still in shock, especially the women, they were really scared. It’s really sad because he was still young. It is comforting to know a quick arrest was made.”

A traumatised resident who asked not to be named said she had been staying in the area for 15 years, and when she heard the news she knew the crime had not been committed by any of them.

“People come from different areas and try their luck here; it’s really sad to hear of a young man losing his life.”

At the time of publication the man’s identity had not been confirmed.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the circumstances surrounding the stabbing were under investigation. A murder case was opened and a 20-year-old man from Newfields, Hanover Park arrested.
