AVIWE Jam-Jam’s boyfriend is due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder and malicious damage.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the man was arrested on Saturday on the two charges.

Jam-Jam’s body was found dumped, after she went missing, in Vygieskraal Stadium, Athlone, on July 29. Her family was only informed of her death on Tuesday.

At the time of her murder she was living with her boyfriend and their 2-year-old son in a gated community, Summerville in Kuils River.

Yesterday, members of the family visited the morgue to view the body. A close family member, who declined to be named, said funeral arrangements had still not been confirmed.

The family member said Jam-Jam’s ex colleagues at Airports Company South Africa had visited the family to offer condolences. The local ANC Women’s League, Lillian Ngoyi branch, also visited the 26-year-old woman’s home in Site C.

Branch secretary Vuyokazi Ncinane said: “We came to show the family our sympathy and to condemn acts of violence against women and children.

“We are not safe as most of the abuse we endure is from those we love and trust. This case on its own has opened old wounds to many families. We will show our support to Aviwe’s family.”

Jam-Jam’s family believed her boyfriend was involved in the murder. but police have not made arrests yet. The family alleged that he beat her up. “He brought her home and told us she was cheating. She defended herself and said she only confessed to this to free herself from him,” the family member said.

The family also alleged that the boyfriend and his friends assaulted Jam-Jam’s stepfather when she failed to go back to his home. “Her stepfather has 12 stitches in the head. They attacked him with pangas and sticks,” said the close family member.
