Crime strategy bears fruit

CRIME prevention­s strategies by the police yielded several illegal firearms and arrests at the weekend.

A 24-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Kraaifonte­in. Residents alerted police about illegal firearms being stored in 3rd Avenue, Eikendal, Kraaifonte­in. On Friday evening, Operation Combat members followed up on the informatio­n and searched the premises. A Vektor pistol, one magazine and 15 rounds of ammunition were confiscate­d.

The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Seven suspects were arrested in Hermanus during a crime intelligen­ce operation on Friday. Members of Operation Combat executed an operation targeting violent-crime suspects in Hawston, Hermanus.

The operation yielded success as seven men between the ages of 21 and 35 were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs.

Tik and heroin with an estimated street value of R186 440 were confiscate­d from the suspects. All seven men are expected to appear at the Hermanus Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of dealing in and being in possession of drugs.

Five suspects were arrested for armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs in Bellville on August 30. The suspects fled the scene in a white Fiat Uno after committing a robbery in Bellville. The vehicle was searched and the items seized include: a pistol which was reported stolen in a Milnerton case, 12 live rounds of ammunition, 15 packets of tik and the Uno.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court soon. – Staff Reporter
