Art exhibition for youth

- Okuhle Hlati

YOUNG and emerging artists from Philippi got a platform to showcase their talent and an opportunity to be mentored.

Yesterday, Kwa Ntsimbi soccer field in Samora Machel was packed as hundreds of people attended the art exhibition. Young designers, poets, models and singers grabbed the opportunity, as they participated in the first exhibition, which focused on promoting local art. The inaugural exhibition featured expressions of life.

Athandwa Bronze, who came up with the idea of hosting the show, said it was about boosting the confidence of the youth who had a passion for art.

“I saw many talents that needs to be groomed and supported. We want to take away the stigma of townships being a place where only bad things happen.

“We want these young people to know they can also be successful through art and teach them how to network.”

Bronze said the exhibition was to also lure the youth for the upcoming career expo that will be hosted on November 18, where they will also receive counselling and be advised by art graduates.

“In our dedication to community upliftment, we will continue to pilot activities which will promote and practise culture, philosophy and volunteerism.”

Bronze said he was hoping that everyone will go home having learnt something.
