‘Brilliant is brilliant and he’s still with us’

- Minenhle Mkhize

KAIZER CHIEFS coach Steve Komphela has hinted that he wants to keep the services of Brilliant Khuzwayo despite reports that Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates are ready to pounce should Amakhosi fail to renew his contract before January.

Khuzwayo (27) joined Amakhosi in 2012 from AmaZulu following his loan spell with Thanda Royal Zulu. His contract is set to expire in June.

Khuzwayo has also been posting messages on his twitter expressing his eagerness to get game time. Tim Sukazi who manages him, confirmed earlier this month they are hoping to agree to a new deal before the end of December.

“Great keeper. Brilliant is with us. There’s a lot of talks that goes on and honestly speaking the same happened with Tight (Joseph Moloangane) and it has always happened. Nothing different with Brilliant but you as coach working for this institution you just have to keep focus. The player is still with us and he is training and playing with us. If anything happens to Khune, Brilliant is ready and we still have Bvuma (Bruce). So people will always bring this.”

Khuzwayo is facing stiff competition in Itumeleng Khune. The Bafana Bafana number one has been on top of his game for Amakhosi. Khune has kept six clean sheets in eleven league outings. He has been nominated as the man of the match four timeso.

“I have to confirm that Brilliant is with us and he is a brilliant keeper. You cannot debate with everybody’s opinions. Sometimes people do things and say things out of anger and frustration. If you were to respond or look at them based on how they respond then you are not mature enough. Leadership is about maturity. Leadership is about going through tests that you think I don’t deserve to write this test but you still go on without writing that test.”
