I RECEIVED the info below via WhatsApp from a friend.

ERIKA DITER: 2018/01/07, 09:28:01: JOVAN NEL: So, very interesting article sent to me by a friend about the water crisis. Hello City of Cape Town, Please inform us what you are doing with the R2.6 billion donated by the German Development Bank to the Western Cape government and City of Cape Town for developing sustainable water solutions. The water crisis news is spread across papers in Germany as our government has made it common knowledge to German citizens that the above monies have been given to you for the purpose of developing sustainable water supplies for your citizens.

According to the Europe government news feed, a further R2 billion was given by France to the Western Cape government in assistance with the water crisis. It will be interesting to see if this money is used correctly or abused by your government.

Furthermore it is shocking to see that your “democratic government” is only penalising the “wealthy” homeowners, and all informal settlements are exempt from restrictions and additional fees. Surely you should be educating the community with regard to water conservation. You are making the exact same mistakes which the apartheid government made years ago: you are not educating your citizens on the same level and therefore developing a larger divide between communities. Furthermore, by not penalising the informal settlements for abuse of water, the government is politically positioning itself in a favourable position for the upcoming 2019 elections. Your government is abusing the “non-informed” and naive citizen to win a favourable position and a majority vote. A very politically backhanded approach. WENDY STRUYWEG Milnerton
