Super spy thriller to hit the screens

- ALYSSIA BIRJALAL

CREATED by Carlton Cuse and Ryan J Condal and starring Lost actor, Josh Holloway, and Sarah Wayne Callies, Colony follows former Army Ranger and FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) as he searches for his lost younger son, Charlie. The series is set in a dystopian Los Angeles after it was taken over by a force of extraterrestrials referred to as the “Hosts”.

We spoke to Holloway to find out more about his character.

Tell us more about FBI agent Will Bowman. Will Bowman’s character centres around his family and trying to survive in a world that has been turned upside down.

What attracted you to this role? I am married with two children, so I feel an immediate connection to the character. Cuse and I became good friends throughout the years of working on Lost. I love Condal’s work and his portrayal of Will Bowman.

Was it difficult to find his character in you? I have two children, so the stakes were pretty immediate for me.

Your roles are always action-packed. Do you enjoy it? Absolutely, because they truly are fun and diverse.

Growing up with three brothers, I always dreamed to be a secret agent of some sorts, so to get to play an action hero or a secret agent now as an actor is a lot of fun.

Was the show challenging? There were many challenges to the show. The physical and emotional challenges are pretty constant.

You acted alongside Sarah Wayne Callies. Do you two work well together? Sarah and I worked years ago in a small independent film. I enjoyed working with her then, and we are lucky to have her in Colony. We are also good friends, and our families are good friends as well, so it has been great.

Describe the script? Colony is an amazing and intricate story about the universal questions we all ask ourselves.

Were you fit for the role? No, I had to go back to the gym for it.

Why should South African viewers tune in? The story is relevant to the climate of the world today. Watch because it’s an exciting spy thriller, with a spice of sci-fi. ● Colony premieres on Universal Channel (DSTV channel 117) on March 5 at 8pm.
