NPA must prosecute Malema, urges AfriForum

-

CIVIL rights organisation AfriForum chief executive Kallie Kriel said it was ridiculous that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has taken more than two years to decide whether EFF leader Julius Malema will answer to charges of fraud and corruption in relation to activities of the company On-Point Engineering in Limpopo.

“If you search the internet, you will find a long list of information relating to On-Point. That is the company where Julius Malema’s Ratanang Family Trust, of which he is the sole trustee, has 50% shares in that On-Point company,” said Kriel.

“On-Point was appointed by the Limpopo department of roads to help them with some work … including giving advice on tenders that were given to people.

“As we know, the companies that got tenders through this process then paid back money into the account of On-Point. That is corruption, and something we believe is a strong case to prosecute.

“It is actually ludicrous that the National Prosecuting Authority … it is now two years and eight months since the case was scrapped in the Polokwane High Court. Why is it not going ahead?”

Kriel said the AfriForum hopes to get the nolle prosequi certificate from the NPA, and pursue the case, setting an example.

The EFF leader has responded by saying the AfriForum can “bring it on”. He tweeted: “Bring it on bloody racists, you don’t scare me at all. I’m born ready! No white man will decide my destiny …”

A party spokesperson said the move was linked to resistance to the EFF’s position on the expropriation of land without compensation. – African News Agency (ANA)
