Campaign inspires youth to clean up

-

LOCAL Members of the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) involved the youth in the Gugulethu area in cleaning up around the NY116 sports field.

The children gave the wall a fresh coat of paint which was sponsored by paint stores. At the end of the event the children were served food.

The event was part of the IPYG Peace My City campaign, in which the government, NGOs and local communities identify conflict areas within society and work together to establish them as safe areas, called peace zones.

With the support of community members, the spaces are cleaned, refurbished and maintained to create peace awareness.

Apart from the NY116 sports field in Gugulethu, IPYG has identified a recreational space in Factreton as a peace zone. For more information, see www.ipyg.org or contact IPYG at sa@ipyg.org.
