Coal shortage set to threaten electricity
ESKOM is running short of coal at a time conveniently coinciding with the announcement of its proposed electricity tariff increase of more than 30%.
The shortage of coal is blamed on the inability of Tegeta, owned by the Gupta family, to comply with its contractual obligation to supply coal to Eskom.
Are Eskom’s woes linked to the Guptas’ state capture? Or is this another tactical move by Eskom to bully consumers into a 30% tariff hike?
