PSL boss Khoza slams Jordaan for ‘false claims’
PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) chairman Irvin Khoza says he has not met nor had any contact with Jennifer Ferguson, the woman who has accused Safa president Danny Jordaan of raping her in a Port Elizabeth hotel room more than 20 years ago.
Jordaan has denied the charges brought against him by the Sweden-based Ferguson. However, according to reports this week, Jordaan’s lawyer has opened a case against Khoza, claiming he is trying to derail the Safa boss’s hopes of winning the upcoming Safa presidency elections by supporting Ferguson, a singer and former ANC MP – by paying for her flights and accommodation.
There are supposedly e-mails to support the claim that Khoza or someone associated with him has made the payments to Ferguson.
Ferguson previously said her flights had been paid for by an anonymous donor, and was quoted this week saying that she believed the allegations of her conspiring with Khoza against Jordaan were false and were being used as a “smear campaign” and a “smokescreen” by the Jordaan camp to try to deflect away from the original rape charge. She also denied having been in contact with Khoza.
Khoza called a press conference at the PSL headquarters yesterday, where he said: “I’ve called you here today to tell you unequivocally I don’t know Miss Jennifer Ferguson nor have I ever spoken to her or anyone who knows her,” he said. “To the full extent of the law, I’m not going to stop at anything until my name is cleared.”
Khoza said this was not the first time Jordaan had accused him of a criminal act.
“It is a pattern of conspiracy theories which are created as diversions,” he said.
Khoza mentioned previous incidents –allegations levelled against him in 2004 after Jordaan had reportedly been shot at, and in 2009, when he said he was accused of trying to stage an “imaginary coup” against Safa. – African News Agency (ANA)
