Time’s up for Westlake ward councillor

- Marvin Charles

THE ULTIMATUM given to Westlake ward councillor Penny East expires today after she was given seven days to respond to Westlake residents who protested over service delivery.

Last week, the residents of Westlake handed over a memorandum to East after demonstrations took place along Westlake Drive.

Community leader Amanda Nobande said: “The residents will take further action if she does not respond to us. We expect service delivery and proof that she will deliver.” Residents marched to the ward councillor’s offices in Constantia to hand over a memorandum. Earlier that day police had used rubber bullets to disperse residents after some threw petrol bombs and barricaded the roads with burning tyres.

East said: “We discussed that we’ll be holding a discussion of all the issues that has been raised on Tuesday.”
