LOOKING fabulous while travelling isn’t the easiest task, but for us make-up and fashion fanatics its simply a necessity. With so many elements to consider such as the weight of your luggage and outfit changes, you need to be a smart packer when it comes to your skin and make-up products.

Lugging around a cosmetic case or a make-up bag full of products you may not even get to use might seem like an ideal situation for options, however, make-up can be messy.

Some products such as loose face powders and liquid products unfortunately are not as sturdy as they look.

Next thing you know, they have spilled all over your bag. There are a number of things to consider to ensure you have the right make-up tools and products you need to serve flawless and interchangeable looks that can easily take you from day to night. Packing a minimalist travel kit is not easy so here are a few tips to help you with the process.

Where are you going and when?

Your destination and season are equally important, do your research beforehand on the expected weather conditions for when you are there be it summer or spring.

Not too big but just enough

Most make-up brands offer travel size alternatives that come in a smaller size than the bulky full size. Go for a 30ml instead of a 50ml, for example.

Activities

Adventure sports such as kayaking or bungee jumping require little to no makeup. While sightseeing on foot or riding in a tour bus means you can do a full facebeat with the right amount of sunscreen of course. This becomes important for identifying which products you are going to need.

Now, these three top tips should already shrink your kit to a decent size.

Cosmetic brand Urban Decay recently launched their newest addition to their eyeshadow palette family named Born To Run (#BornToRun).

Aimed at souls struck by wanderlust and promoted as the perfect travel companion.

It is already a favourite for many makeup bloggers and influencers around the world. I took the palette with me for a weekend escape for a test run.

Unlike the brand’s much-loved eyeshadow palette Naked Heat which comes in warm, neutral and sunset shadows, the Born To Run all-in-one eyeshadow palette has 21 shades that will cover you for possibly every eye look you might think of.

From neutral to smoky and bright to bold colours, any look you want for anywhere you go.

The formula is soft and highly pigmented. With a combination of satin, metallic and matte finishes.

Colours include soft pinks, reddish and shimmery browns, ocean blues, cherry purple and greens. It is wearable and stays on for a long time.

Visiting the sleepy and picture-perfect fishing village of Paternoster in the Cape’s West Coast meant I had a relaxed weekend of indulging in good food and enjoying beautiful ocean views.

And I stayed at the intimate Abalone House one night and at Abalone Pool villas for another night.

Abalone House is tastefully decorated with artist Tretchikoff inspired décor and supreme luxury finishes, I created a look that worked for dining at the establishment’s in-house restaurant, Reuben’s, as well as a leisurely stroll to the beach.

The 5-star Abalone Pool Villas offers the finest self-catering accommodation in the village with outstanding views as well as fine dining.
