Charity Week launched in SA

- SUKAINA ISHMAIL

ISLAMIC Relief Worldwide, a global Muslim humanitarian organisation has launched Charity Week in South Africa after similar campaigns in the UK, Canada, America, Germany, Australia and Qatar.

The focus of Charity Week will be on orphans and orphanages.

“All children deserve the basic necessities of life to flourish physically and mentally. According to Unicef, there are an estimated 3.7 million orphans in South Africa and an estimated 153 million worldwide.”

For the first time in South Africa, an entirely volunteer-led group of students will come together to launch The Charity Week campaign.

A group of South African volunteers from different institutions will be assisting with Charity Week next month.

They will be hosting fundraising events from October 22 to 28.

“All the money raised will go to orphans and needy children around the world and Islamic Relief’s orphans and needy children project will be funded this year with the money raised in South Africa,” says Rushda Booley, the director of Charity Week SA.

“Everything done within this campaign is purely volunteer-led and this represents how a group of compassionate individuals can come together through their own initiatives and help bring about a positive change among our children.”
