Construction under way on primary school
THE Department of Public Works has begun construction of Kwa-Faku Primary School in Philippi East, at a cost of R68 million.
The new school building will be on the same grounds as the old school and will be completed late next year.
The new school will accommodate 1 360 pupils.
Department of Transport and Public Works communications officer Byron La Hoe said: “Construction started this week. Phase one construction entails the building of the classroom and administration facilities. Once phase one is complete, phase two construction will commence, and this will be the construction of the courtyards and the hall.”
Kwa-Faku Primary pupils will be taught in temporary classrooms on site for the remainder of the construction period.
The new, revamped school will consist of 32 classrooms (12 foundation phase, 12 intermediate phase, four senior phase, and four Grade R), two multi-purpose classrooms and a science laboratory.
In addition, the school will have a hall and an administration building.
A borehole will be installed to reduce the municipal water requirements during the construction process.
