Huberte Rupert Memorial Concert

- HANNELI RUPERT Huberte Rupert Foundation Staff Reporter

PIETER Schoeman, the South African violinist who has led the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) for the past decade, will be the soloist in the prestigious Huberte Rupert Memorial Concert with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

Schoeman will play the Bruch Violin Concerto. The concert will take place on Friday, November 30, at the Endler Concert Hall, at 8pm.

On the podium will be one of South Africa’s most exciting conductors, Chad Hendricks, the winner of the third Len van Zyl Conductor’s Competition.

Hendricks will also conduct the orchestra in the Egmont Overture by Beethoven, and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8 in G.

This is the 12th concert in the series, which was devised to honour philanthropist Rupert and keep alive her dream to have young South African musicians who are making a name for themselves return home.

“This year, we are excited that Pieter Schoeman, who was one of the first South African musicians we as a foundation supported, is the soloist,” said Hanneli Rupert.

“These talented young musicians show South African audiences

These musicians show SA audiences what a wealth of talent is produced here

what a wealth of talent is produced in this country.”

Schoeman made his solo debut at the age of 10 with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, before going to America to study. He has performed worldwide as a soloist, including appearances with the LPO, and as a recitalist and chamber musician.

Hendricks grew up in the vast music programme of the New Apostolic Church. He is the resident conductor of the New Apostolic Church’s Cape Town Orchestra. He graduated with a BMus from UCT.

Tickets are R150/R100, from http://bit.ly/PieterSchoeman or Artscape Dial-A-Seat 021 421 7695 or, if still available, at the door. |
