Transport plan launched
IN AN effort to improve the partnership between the Department of Transport, the Western Cape government and the minibus taxi industry, the transport incentives programme has been launched.
Transport Minister Blade Nzimande and Transport MEC Donald Grant were on hand to launch the “Smart Shayela”(smart driving) incentives programme.
The programme seeks to raise awareness of the important role of transport infrastructure in the South African economy and to deal with interventions for safe roads.
Nzimande said these interventions included the Railway Level Crossing Unit, to ensure safety at railway level crossings. He said this would be in collaboration with the Railway Safety Regulator, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa and Transnet.
Some of the interventions would include strategic law enforcement.
