COMPUKIDS PARTNERS WITH MICROSOFT TO GET CHILDREN IN SA HYPED TO LEARN ABOUT CODING
THIS week Code.org launched the international Computer Science Education Week, to get kids all over the world excited about coding.
To coincide with this, South African start-up CompuKids has partnered with tech giant Microsoft to launch the CompuKids Coding Challenge, which is a coding and innovation competition that aims to get South African children excited about coding during the school holidays, and win amazing prizes sponsored by Microsoft for their work. Prizes up for grabs are an Xbox One, a Samsung tablet and a Nokia smartphone.
CompuKids, run by 18-year-old entrepreneur Talha Kathrada, was established to offer computer science and coding skills to children in South Africa.
The company offers a complete online Computer Science curriculum and short courses on its website and YouTube channel.
CompuKids works with a number of schools in South Africa and in other countries, and runs regular coding and entrepreneurship bootcamps at disadvantaged schools.
The 2019 Coding Challenge has a theme of “Save the Turtles” which will, apart from getting kids to code, create awareness about the plight of the highly-endangered sea turtles.
More information about the CompuKids Coding Challenge is available on the CompuKids website: www.compukids.me/c3-2019
The competition runs until March 31, 2019.
