Dan Plato will retain the size of his Mayco

CONTRARY to the front page headline “Plato expands his MayCo”, the mayor is not expanding his Mayoral Committee, he is keeping the same number of MayCo members, but merely changing the portfolios to ensure more effective service delivery.

Section 60, subsection 2, of the Municipal Structures Act specifies how many members can be on a MayCo and the Mayor has no intention of ignoring the law.

Each Mayoral Committee member is responsible for a particular directorate in the City, and each directorate requires an administrative head, this is the standard system applied throughout the country and the rest of the world. GREG WAGNER Spokesperson for Dan Plato, Executive Mayor of Cape Town
