Prince stable after suffering heart attack
BEAUFORT West deputy mayor Truman Prince is recovering in hospital after he was admitted on Friday following a heart attack at his home.
Although the situation was serious, Prince says he is doing well.
In a recorded message to his ANC comrades, Prince said the show must go on.
“Comrades, I might be in hospital, but I am at least fine. We are just waiting for a few tests and then everything will be in order,” Prince said.
ANC Western Cape spokesperson Dennis Cruywagen said that Prince’s condition was stable.
Over the past 15 years Prince has been mayor three times, as well as municipal manager – with each term mired in controversy.
In August 2010, Prince, who was the Central Karoo Municipality manager at the time, was arrested in Laingsburg on a charge of drunk driving.
Prince was dismissed by the municipality in 2005 on charges of sexual misconduct. He appealed against his dismissal and was reinstated as municipality manager in June 2007.
He was dismissed from the job two months later. Prince was given the right to appeal and got his post back.
In 2006, Prince was reportedly arrested and faced charges of assault and crimen injuria. He was alleged to have attacked two ANC canvassers.
More recently, he was accused of assaulting a female traffic officer and members of the DA.
