THE first technology-focused school has been opened by private education company Curro.

The distinctive curriculum of the school will pay special attention to subjects such as robotics and coding, as well as mathematics and science.

The advanced education Curro will provide is meant to prepare a learner for the technology-driven world.

“There are lots of technology tools that we use in day-to-day teaching and the kids will receive devices they can work on and do their assignments and learning on laptops. This exposes them to all the electronic tools out there. It’s all about preparing the kids for the future that is relevant to them,” said Curro business manager Jay Paul.

Paul said it was important to expose learners to the various technologies now because by the time they reached the workplace, there would be even more advanced technologies in play and by then it would be much easier for them to get into it.

Learners at Curro would not be given homework, to ensure that they completed their work during school hours. This concept of having no homework also allowed for more quality time with family, said Paul.

The school is based 500m from the Cape Town station and taxi rank.

The fees are R1 900 a month, which Paul said was believed to be more affordable in comparison to other private education schools.

There are currently only Grade 8 learners. For every new year, a higher grade will be introduced until matric, which will fall in the year 2023.
