First-years to be feted, meet UCT executives
AS UNIVERSITIES are gearing up to welcome first-year students, UCT vice-chancellor Mamokgethi Phakeng invited parents, guardians and sponsors of first-year students admitted at the institution to a meeting with some university executives.
UCT spokesperson Aamirah Sonday said the programme has information about the university, “important procedures and regulations, and how the academic programme will be structured to offer students the best possible environment in which to learn, grow and succeed”.
She said the orientation was a set of programmes designed to introduce first-year students to the different facilities and unique aspects of university life.
“It usually begins with parent orientation, where parents of new students are invited to familiarise themselves with our institution,” Sonday said.
The welcoming event will take place at the newly named Sarah Baartman Hall on Saturday next week and on Monday, January 28, at 2pm. People are urged to select one session.
However, Sonday said those who wished to attend the sessions should RSVP online today.
“The unfortunate reality is that there will be some applicants who will not be accepted because of limited capacity,” Sonday added.
“In managing the registration processes, UCT is assessing the situation on a day-to-to day basis,” she said.
