Winde unveils DA’s campaign strategy

DA posters ask voters to keep the ANC and EFF out of the Western Cape

DA Western Cape premier candidate Alan Winde has called on voters in the province to keep the ANC and EFF out, but the ANC said the DA was offering more self-glorification, obfuscation, lies and pats on the back.

Winde yesterday hung the first “Register to keep the ANC/EFF out of the Western Cape” poster in the Cape Town CBD.

“This election is very important for the voters of the Western Cape, as we cannot allow our province to go backwards and for the progress we have made to be eradicated. It is vital that every resident registers, or verifies their registration to vote, so that you are empowered to choose a government that delivers,” Winde said.

He said that when the DA was elected into government in 2009, the party’s first priority was to stop corruption and spend taxpayers money on the people. “Today, the Western Cape gets the best audits in the country and the DA continues to keep corruption out… Money is spent on the vision and plans for the Western Cape. Even the national government recognises that and rates the Western Cape as the best performing provincial government.

“The audit numbers aren’t just numbers on a paper, they are lives changed through good governance.”

Winde said that over the next five years their plan would be to build on the progress they had made. “By continuing to… grow the economy so more people can have fair access to real, long-term jobs. In addition, we plan to deal with the two remaining pieces of the ANC’s failed legacy in the Western Cape – crime that is out of control and the failing rail service.

“Don’t allow the ANC and EFF to take control of the Western Cape.”

But ANC provincial secretary Faiez Jacobs said Winde was initially not good enough because DA leader Mmusi Maimane tried to elbow him out the way to appoint himself as premier candidate. “This is a prime example of a party that works very well for privileged white males even if they cannot deliver. Although he went through a sham election process, his colour and privilege sealed the DA’s nomination for him.”

Jacobs said that in a typical DA sleight of hand he was made Community Safety MEC.

“The intent was obvious... Winde was to be presented as a crime-fighting politician. But we know the DA’s track record. They’re a party that is happy to be associated with criminals who terrorise our communities. Our people know the dark side and feel the pain inflicted by criminals. No matter what political half-truths Winde will try to peddle we are ready for the DA, a party of has-beens that is running scared of the effect of President Cyril Ramaphosa on the electorate.”

Efforts to contact the EFF provincial leadership failed.
