Students takes World skills competition by storm
THE College of Cape Town is pleased to announce that seven of its students are amongst those representing the Western Cape at the World Skills National Competition.
Early last year fourteen competitors from our college entered the local heats that took place at various TVET College campuses around the Western Cape. Participants and skills experts were put through their paces to be amongst those selected to compete in the Western Cape Provincial competition which took place from August to October last year.
World Skills prides itself on improving the world of work with the power of skills competition, showcasing the value of skills and raising the recognition of skilled professionals world-wide.
We congratulate the following students who represented the College of Cape Town at the provisional platform and who excelled in the various trades indicated: Aviwe Nkata achieved bronze in Electrical Ahmad Isaacs achieved bronze in Refrigeration and Airconditioning
Pieter Roets achieved gold in Refrigeration and Airconditioning Tarryn Samuels achieved silver in Hairdressing
Leanne Rosenberg and Maria De Reuck both achieved bronze in Beauty Therapy Brittaney Smith achieved silver in Beauty Therapy Bridney Cloete achieved gold in Beauty Therapy Ridhaa Manuel achieved silver in Automobile Technology Amurodeen Fortuinse achieved gold in Automobile Technology Sive Wayiti achieved bronze in Plumbing and Heating Sinoxolo Mahote achieved silver in Plumbing and heating James Dingaan achieved silver in Bricklaying Michal Jones achieved gold in Cooking
Our thanks and appreciation goes to the following provincial and national experts from the College of Cape Town who made time outside of their core functions as lecturers and programme managers to assist, and to give guidance to the students who participated:

Ryan Marsh National expert for Plumbing and Heating. A prestigious awards ceremony was held at the Belmont Conference Centre on the 4th of December 2018 to recognise and celebrate the competitors who showed the highest level of technical, attitudinal and behavioural skills. These participants were selected based on their performance and will be representing the Western Cape at the World Skills National Competition.
Seven students from the College of Cape Town will represent the Western Cape at the National competition which is scheduled to take place at the Durban International Convention Centre between the 22nd and 27th February 2019.
The winners selected at this stage of the competition will be supported in preparation for the International Competition which with be held in Kazan, Russia later this year.
The International Competition is really the “Olympic Games of Skills” with more than 1 600 of the best in their skills area from 60 countries come together to compete to see who is the best in the world. The top candidate from each skills area at the National Competition will undergo a rigorous training programme ahead of the International Competition.
