Taiwan donates medical supplies

- Staff Reporter

THE City received another donation of medical equipment from Taiwan.

According to the City, this was due to the continuous good working relationship between City speaker Dirk Smit and the local Taipei Liaison Office headed by Dean Wang.

“The City has been a grateful recipient of these donations for many years, including the donations made today,” the City said. “The Taipei Liaison Office has provided the City with a total of 1 104 wheelchairs, 594 commodes and 440 walkers since 2012 worth hundreds of thousands of rand.

“For a number of years, the Amitofo Care Centre, a Taiwanese charity organisation, has distributed durable medical equipment, medicine and clothing to people in need across Africa. The Cape Town Taipei Liaison Office helps to facilitate the receipt of containers stocked with durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers and commodes.

“As a caring City, whose aim it is to look after the elderly and disabled, these donations will assist in instilling a sense of pride and independence for residents who in the past have not had access to these aids for some time due to long waiting lists at state hospitals.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Cape Town Taipei Liaison Office for their generous and continued assistance and donations over the years. This donation of muchneeded mobility equipment and other items of comfort helps us to deliver on our promise of promoting individual and community welfare. The 200 powder-coated wheelchairs, 50 walkers and 50 commodes will assist a number of our residents who have special needs,” said Smit. |
