THE Spice Mecca Ramadaan For All event will showcase the Imam Haron exhibition, Jesus exhibition, Community Legend Awards and a Freedom Symposium this year.

The programme of the event from April 26 to 28 at the Castle of Good Hope will provide attendees with a taste of culture, history and art.

As the country celebrates 25 years of democracy on Freedom Day, April 27, the theme of the event will underline the fight for freedom and justice.

The Islamic Peace University of South Africa (IPSA) will host a Freedom Symposium at the Castle of Good Hope at 11am on the Saturday.

Significant figures that played a role in bringing about democracy in South Africa will be honoured at the Community Legend Awards at 1.30pm on Saturday, including Steve Biko, Ahmed Timol, Dulcie September, Sedick Isaacs and Dullah Omar.

The RFA souk is located in the main exhibition area where there are over 150 stands and vendors who stock diverse merchandise. This includes designer wear from Dubai, Turkey, Indonesia and South Africa.

There will also be cosmetics, food and other delicacies among other exciting merchandise. The food court will have 20 food vendors.

The Imam Haron exhibition will provide guests with an insight into the legacy of the late Imam Abdullah Haron who was a very prominent figure during the apartheid era. The son of Imam Haron will be present at the event to talk about the history of South Africa and his father.

“These freedom fighters have contributed selflessly to a just social order and to restore the human dignity of all the people of this beautiful country.

“Their commendable efforts cannot be ignored or forgotten and we need to place them on a special roll of honour at the Community Legends Awards. This will be one of the major new components of the Ramadaan For All experience,” said Spice Mecca chief executive Shreef Abass.

There will be a documentary film studio where documentaries will be screened over the entire weekend. Brochures on screening times will be made available.

An interactive kids play area will also be available while adults enjoy their shopping. Entry will cost R35 while a weekend pass will cost R75. Pensioners will pay R20 and children under 12 enter free. The event will be open from 9am until 9pm.

On Sunday the event opens at 9am and will close by 6pm. Tickets can be purchased online at www.webtickets. co.za or at any Pick n Pay store.
