Life for Palestinians worse than apartheid
I SALUTE the Cape Argus for exposing the Israeli army for defeating the ends of justice (“Army is covering up killing”, Cape Argus, April 16) and exposing its soldiers for what they are.
According to the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem, a 23-year-old Palestinian was shot by an Israeli settler at the Huwara Junction, which is monitored by video cameras. Another Israeli settler climbed out of his truck and joined the first to further fire more shots at the critically injured Palestinian lying on the side of the road.
To prevent the two settlers from being held accountable for their despicable actions, eight Israeli soldiers, soon after the incident, entered surrounding shops and erased incriminating video footage from the DVRs.
The Israelis usually use the footage provided by these cameras when prosecuting Palestinians, but – coincidentally and conveniently – no footage was provided in this case to corroborate the version of the two settlers.
Any country that respects human rights will never allow its law enforcers, the soldiers, to perform such reprehensible acts that prevent its citizens from facing justice and being held accountable for using excessive force and measures not commensurate with the transgression by the Palestinians.
This is further proof that human rights are non-existent in Israel as far as the Palestinians are concerned and that Israel is indeed a rogue state.
Life for Palestinians is far worse than what we experienced under apartheid. Aluta continua.
