Zodwa pops the question

- | Staff Reporter

“THIS ring was bought with the money I get from shaking my bum,” says racy dancer and socialite Zodwa Wabantu, 33, after she popped the question to her bae Ntobeko Linda, 24.

Wabantu, who is no stranger to controversy, seems to keep finding new ways to shock her Mzansi fans. On Sunday she proposed to her young lover. In videos making the rounds on social media, the entertainer is seen on bended knees, asking for his hand in marriage.

While many fans were reeling from that, Wabantu had another surprise up her sleeve – she revealed the price of the rings. She showed receipts for the custom-made, princess-style, nine-carat rose gold morganite and diamond ring – it cost R47 826. Her bae’s cost R5 217.

And then she said she would be paying lobolo to the Linda family.

While many took to the comment section to congratulate the happy couple, some didn’t think it was appropriate for the bride-to-be to pay lobolo to the groom’s family.

“You are really making a fool of this young man,” said Instagram follower @hanukem. “Yes, you make the money; what is the pride in belittling him? I don’t get the purpose… Go ahead and tell people how you buy his clothes and dress him up to look up to what you desire, while he walks around smiling like zombie.”

Another follower, @skyetshuma, said: “Don’t you think you are a bit insensitive to the guy kodwa, siyazi uyazenzela vele (We know you have style), rubbing it in his face all the time? Love your honesty though, it takes a bigger person, but yekethisa kancane bandla (cool it a bit).”

“Being a Ben 10 is a career to him,” wrote another IG user, @nathimiky.

In the video posted on her IG account, Wabantu says: “Le ring ngiyithenge ngemali yendunu (This ring was bought with the money I get from shaking my bum). Linda responded: Idliso activated. I’m happy, she’s happy. We are happy. Ngiyamthanda futhi (I love her) uZuzu.

Mzansi waits with bated breath for the wedding date and Wabantu’s reality show, which is launching soon.
