Fashion’s biggest night out
WE ALL know the real party is the after-party for any big event where a large contingent of celebrities are in attendance – the annual Met Gala fits the bill perfectly.
Held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and hosted by Vogue magazine’s editorin-chief Anna Wintour, the Met Gala saw big names such as Billy Porter, Lupita Nyong’o, Lady Gaga, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Katy Perry walk the Met red carpet in their best “camp” garb yesterday.
This year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, was inspired by Susan Sontag’s essay, Notes On Camp, which defined camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration”.
The co-chairs for the biggest night in fashion were: Lady Gaga, who wore three Brandon Maxwell garments with a full theatrical reveal as she made her entrance at the gala; Harry Styles dressed by Gucci; Alessandro Michele, the creative director for Gucci; and tennis icon Serena Williams in Versace.
After guests showed off their outfits on the red carpet, they were treated to a mini-ball with voguing and a performance by pop queen Cher once they entered the venue.
This year, there were three big after-parties that were hosted by Kim Kardashian West with Serena Williams, Gucci and Balmain.
While a large number of the Met Gala 2019 guested showed up in their best themed attire for the main gala dinner, most of the after-party attendees changed into a more party-appropriate wardrobe to dance the night away.
Attendees at the Kardashian West and Williams party included Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid. Guests were treated to McDonald’s fries as a late-night snack during the party.
The Gucci after-party was hosted at an uptown gym in New York with Mark Ronson on the decks. Styles joined him in the DJ booth and even spun the decks which got the crowd going.
Balmain hosted an after-party at the Boom Boom Room where Perry dressed in a burger costume and Maluma, Celine Dion, Gwen Stefani, Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott and newlyweds Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jones partied the night away.
By the looks of social media posts, it seems that the Gucci afterparty was the main one to attend. Many of the celebrities ended up there as their last stop for the night.
