Writing contest for Grades 9 to 12

AMNESTY Internatio­nal’s Cape Town chapter invites all Grades 9 to 12 pupils in the Western Cape to participat­e in the Peter Benenson Writing Competitio­n 2019.

Amnesty Internatio­nal is a global human rights movement that campaigns for a world where human rights are enjoyed and respected by all.

The team said its topic, “taking injustice personally”, invited learners to creatively tackle issues in a solution-oriented manner, with the aim of empowering youth to be the leaders “we” need.

Entries can either be a poem of any length or an essay of between 500 and 1 000 words.

The deadline is July 31 and the winning entries will be published on Amnesty Internatio­nal South Africa’s website, and will be announced on August 15.

Submission­s that show evidence of plagiarism will not be considered.

Pupils should submit entries to peterbenes­on2019@gmail.com. If they have questions they may email the team.

There are prizes up for grabs.
