Dramat to serve on new interim provincial committee, chaired by Lerumo Kalako
FORMER Hawks boss Anwar Dramat, who lost his job due to allegations that he was involved in the illegal rendition of Zimbabwean suspects, is one of the new faces of 30 members serving on the ANC’s Western Cape interim provincial committee (IPC). The charges against him were later withdrawn.
The names were released by ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule at a media briefing yesterday.
Former MP Lerumo Kalako is set to be the convener of the IPC, which will lead the province to its next conference, while Stellenbosch councillor Ronaldo Nalumango serves as co-ordinator. The list also includes former provincial head of justice and constitutional development Hishaam Mohamed and former premier Ebrahim Rasool.
At the briefing Magashule said: “We have men and women who are going to drive this province (for the ANC).”
The announcement comes amid speculation of factionalism and squabbles within the provincial structures, with an earlier statement by ANC national spokesperson Pule Mabe confirming the decision to end the term of the provincial executive committee (PEC) of the Western Cape, which expired in June. The PIC replaces the disbanded PEC.
Kalako said his first order of business would be to convene subcommittees and draw up a programme of work.
“This programme will ensure that we increase the number of branches in the Western Cape, strengthen the regions, as well as look seriously into the issues of governance,” he pointed out.
The ANC’s Western Cape IPC members are: convener Lerumo Kalako, co-ordinator Ronalda Nalumango, Matilda Bains, Rachel Windvogel, Ayanda Bans, Zoleka Swakamisa, Thandi Makasi, Maurencia Gillion, Richard Dyanyi, Faiez Jacobs, Unathi Tshotwana, Nomi Nkondlo, Nonceba Mhlauli, Cameron Dugmore, Nondumiso Sono, Zou Kota, Lynne Brown, Hishaam Mohamed, Nondomisa Magopeni, James Ngculu, Anwar Dramat, Malvern du Bruyn, Andile Lili, Valerie Phunguphungu, Songezo Mjongile, Shaun Byneveldt, Sfiso Mtsweni, Khaya Magaxa, Ebrahim Rasool and Mimmie Manata.
